My Passion
Why We Do this
For over 7 years I have practiced within our medical system as a pediatric hospitalist. I spent 2 years doing a global health fellowship in low-resource areas and gained invaluable insights into our medical system and what is possible in healthcare. I have also done extensive inner work so I can show up as an effective leader and share my gifts.
I am passionate about creating a community-centered, humanized, and accessible healthcare system that prioritizes mental health and social justice.
I have a passion for decolonization, trauma-informed care, and community engagement in healthcare. My vision is to empower and inspire a new generation of healthcare leaders who are committed to transforming the health and lives of the people in our communities.
That is why I founded Transforming Healthcare, a platform for healthcare leaders to network and share solutions for our medical system challenges and to create rapid, intentional, and sustainable change.
My Story
As many healthcare providers do, I went into medicine to help others and make a positive impact on the health and lives of the people in my community. I was drawn to global health, and after completing a pediatric residency I worked in Rwanda for a year. I clearly saw the problems in our medical system and the impact it had on the community we were serving.
Upon returning to the US and working in hospital systems as a pediatric hospitalist, I felt overwhelmed with the challenges in our system and unable to make any sustainable changes on my own. This led to burnout and a sense of hopelessness.
I began talking to other providers about my struggles and found that many people working in our healthcare system experience similar feelings. I developed this platform to bring us together so that we can start making substantial changes within our system rather than wait for changes to happen from the top.
I know that we all have unique gifts and skills to offer. By creating space for them to be shared and put into practice, we can see radical sustainable changes in our healthcare system that can improve the health and lives of our communities.
Our vision is to create a healthcare system that is community-centered, relationship-driven, and with whole-health approaches that empowers patients to get the help they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
